The words broken yet worthy came to me as I was contemplating the name of our new blog. The word broken was a fitting word for my husband and I since we both had survived the wreckage of divorce. My previous marriage lasted almost two decades and my husband's was just a few years. Regardless of their durations, we had a shared experience of brokenness. Divorce has a way of shattering life into a thousand tiny pieces. Many things in life can do that- death, loss, failure, addiction, abuse, just to name a few. Live long enough and the fallenness of our world will eventually have its way with you. If we're honest, we can see we're all in need of rescue. But if we're in need of rescue, are we worthy of being saved? God answers that question through His Son Jesus.
"When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." Romans 5 :6-8 NLT
We are worthy. Regardless of our brokenness and the sin that has marred our lives, we are worth saving because God says so. In light of this undeserved gift, we must emerge from our trackless wastelands and follow the lighted path He has set before us. May we live lives worthy of the calling we have received.
